Acabei de ver o primeiro desfile de Raf Simons para a Christian Dior, seguramente um dos mais aguardados do ano. Simons foi nomeado director criativo da maison francesa no início de 2012, como substituto do inigualável John Galliano, deixando mundo da moda em pulgas para ver o que o belga romântico e minimalista faria. Esta tarde, a espera terminou.

Paris ofereceu uma sala completamente forrada de flores e Simons - ex-director criativo da Jil Sander - concluiu o seu primeiro teste com leveza e graciosidade. Aos olhos mais afiados da indústria da moda, o criador apresentou a elegância sumptuosa do New Look inventado pelo próprio Christian Dior reduzida a linhas puras, mas não menos interessantes. 

 I've just watched Raf Simons' first couture show at Christian Dior. After being hired as the French fashion house's creative director earlier this year, Simons, the man assigned to take over Galliano's unique legacy, left the world of fashion dying of curiosity to see what he would come up with. This afternoon, all doubts were put to rest.

Paris offered a room lined with flowers and the minimalistic Belgian - former creative director at Jil Sander - finished his first test with poise and grace. To the sharpest eyes in fashion, Simons presented the sumptous elegance of the New Look Christian Dior invented in 1947 reduced to the purest, but not less interesting, lines.

Confesso que nos primeiros instantes do desfile hesitei em gostar. Talvez estivesse à espera que o criador belga apresentasse algo mais explosivo e exuberante. Depois parei de resistir. Lembrei-me de que gostava imenso do trabalho de Raf Simons na Jil Sander e percebi que não podia exigir que o brilhante designer se deixasse engolir pelo passado floreado da Dior e perdesse a sua essência subtil. Fiel a si mesmo e fiel ao gigante parisiense que agora representa, como uma lufada de ar fresco varreu os excessos que caracterizavam a Dior nos tempos áureos de Galliano. Não digo que o seu trabalho seja melhor ou pior. Digo que é distinto e que, por isso mesmo, marca o início de uma nova era. 

I confess, at the begining, I was hesitating to like the collection. Maybe I was counting on something rather explosive or exuberant... But, suddenly, I stopped resisting. I remembered I used to love Raf Simons' work at Jil Sander and I realised I couldn't ask the brilliant designer to succumb to Dior's bubbly past and loose his sublte essence. Faithful both to his and Dior's aesthetics, he was the blow of fresh air that swept away the excesses that became the label's image during Galliano's golden years. I won't say Simons' work is better or worse. I'll just say it's distinct and, therefore, it marks the bitrh of a new era.

Depois de deliciosos minutos a observar peplums arquitectónicos, o movimento de pregas geniais em saias rodadas, calças pallazzo, silhuetas de contornos definidos e regulares, clássicos intemporais e extremamente modernos, bordados delicados e fabulosos vestidos de "duas caras" (a metade da frente era completamente diferente da de trás), cheguei à conclusão que, com o seu agradável jeito minimalista, Raf Simons foi um exímio arquitecto de romance e não esqueceu, em momento algum, o sonho de glamour que se sempre se soltará de todos os lábios que pronunciarem o nome Dior.

After delicious minutes observing achitectonic peplums, the movement of genious pleats in full skirts, pallazzo trousers, nice and evenly contoured silhuettes, timeless and extremely modern classics, delicate embroideries and fabulous "two-faced" evening dresses (the front half and the back half were two different pieces), I concluded Raf Simons, with his minimalistic magic wand, was a flawless architect of romance and did not forget for one second the dream of glamour Dior will always stand for.
