Ampla, agradável e cosmopolita, lá estava Barcelona pronta para nos receber. Plana e erguida entre avingudas e ramblas, a capital da Catalunha mostra-se orgulhosa da beleza única com que os edifícios tipicamente Art Nouveau e as obras-primas de Gaudí a vestem.
Wide, pleasant and cosmopolitan, there was Barcelona, ready to welcome us. Flat and built between avingudas and ramblas, the capital of Catalonia rises tall and proudly dressed in the unique beauty of typical Art Nouveau buildings and Gaudí's masterpieces.

A Catedral da Sagrada Família - ou "catedral inacabada" - é, sem dúvida, a menina dos olhos do seu genial criador, o arquitecto Antoni Gaudí. Inspirada na natureza, a catedral está repleta de detalhes que vão além da imaginação. De proporções assombrosas e luminosidade imensa, tem qualquer coisa de catedral gótica sem deixar de mostrar o quão à frente do seu tempo ia o intelecto de Gaudí. Continua por terminar. Hoje as obras vão avançando financiadas pelo dinheiro que os milhares de visitantes pagam para lá entrar. Uma pequena contribuição para uma obra magnífica. Para além disso, a sensação de beleza, paz e grandiosidade que, independentemente de qualquer crença religiosa, nos invade assim que pisamos o interior desta brecha do mundo fabuloso do arquitecto é uma recordação que fica.

La Sagrada Familia - or the "unfinished cathedral" - is, without doubt, the most tresoured work of its genious creator, Antoni Gaudí. Inspired by nature, the cathedral is filled with details that go beyond any imagination. The astonishing proportions and the intense luminosity make it look a bit like a gothic cathedral, without ever hiding how avant garde Gaudí's intellect was. It is still to be concluded. Nowadays, the constrution goes on depending on the money thousands of visitors pay to go inside it. A small contribution to a magnificent job. And, furthermore, the overwhelming feeling of beauty, peace and majesty that, whatever our religious beliefs may be, invades us the moment we step in this breach to the fabulous world of the architec is memory that lasts forever.

No centro da cidade a história é outra. Ainda perto de Gaudí, chegamos à Praça da Catalunha e "embarcamos" num quilómetro de La Rambla, bem até ao mar. É a zona mais movimentada da cidade. Há tanta gente que nem se vê o chão. Comércio, comida e museus são algumas das atracções turísticas.
The city centre is a whole different world. Still close to Gaudí, we reach the Square of Catalonia and "board" one kilometre of La Rambla untill we reach the sea. It's the most crowded place of the city. There are so many people we can no longer see the floor. Shops, food and museums are some of the turistic spots.

Before La Rambla, Casa Batló and La Pedrera keep standing for Gaudí's charm. Unfortunately, I had no time to visit them inside, so it will have to be postponed for another trip to Barcelona! ;)

Um dos locais mais curiosos de Barcelona é o Mercado de La Boqueria. Tudo que seja comestível pode ser lá encontrado e trazido a 1€. Com o calor imenso da hora de almoço, eu não resisti aos refrescantes sumos de fruta. Aquele copinho de morango e banana veio mesmo a calhar!
One of Barcelona's most typical places is the Market of la Boqueria. Every eatable thing can be found there and brought home for 1€. Well, because of the melting heat of lunch time I couldn't resist a fresh fruit juice. Oh, that glass of strawberry and banana was all I needed!
